Fighting continued in Naher el Bared as sporadic artillery fire was reported. Meanwhile, Palestinian clerics continued negotiating on the possible evacuation of wounded militants from a camp. The army confirmed that mediation was taking place. The clerics had already succeeded in arranging for the wives and children -- 63 people -- of the remaining Fatah al-Islam militants who were evacuated last Friday. According to the clerics the Lebanese as well as Palestinian civilians with Lebanese travel documents who were evacuated on Friday had joined their families in the Ain al-Helweh refugee camp in the south and Baddawi, near Nahr al-Bared. They said Syrian or Palestinian evacuees with Syrian travel documents have already left for Syria. A small number of foreign evacuees with no travel documents were in army custody. Separately investigations with arrested militant revealed that Abu Herrera, who was killed in
the fighting had prepared four explosive laden-cars. They were supposed to target the Defense Ministry, the Internal Security Forces as well as areas in northern Lebanon. It was also reported that Fatah el Islam leader Shaker el Absi is still inside the camp while his wife was interrogated for a second time today. |
